Various Record Labels

Let’s All Go to the Record Store

The lost art of music packaging and the ultimate mix tape.

I worked part-time in record stores for years. I often wished for a “grown up” job where I could make mix tapes and decorate the tape cases. Turns out this was a real thing. I went to art school and landed my dream job straight out —a graphic designer at a record label.

The process of collaborating with a recording artist and bringing their vision to life was both exciting and hella challenging. It jump-started my journey with product and packaging. It taught me how to compromise, balance many projects at once, and how to emote a feeling visually. I solidified my skills as an illustrator. And it started my love affair with teeny type that is still going strong today.

Through work with Nettwerk Records, Arista/BMG and other Independent labels, I designed over a hundred different cd and vinyl releases. The goal was always to translate the passion of the artists into a tiny booklet format while keeping the marketing-focused record label happy.

The love of music drove it all.  What a privilege.
